May 6
- I asked for feedback from a friend who said I was sounding a bit panicky, so I laid off for a few days. Also, I had a friend die, so I had to attend her funeral – she is the grandmother of my best friend; the grandma has been on oxygen for about 6 months, but she went quickly at the end.
- I applied for an instruction designer job with Vanguard up in PA.
- I applied for a job with Staffing Now

May 3
- I sent my resume to Dayna, our CPA, and had a good talk with her.
- I got an encouraging note from a good friend: “I like it! A totally new-age approach! Can't wait to hear how it all turns out.” Honestly, if people want to post comments here, I’ll answer them – and I am not adverse to humor here (but my primary goal is to find a job so I don’t end up living under a bridge – my couch wouldn’t fit, and it’s difficult to hang pictures…). Also, email this blog address out to others. SPAM the globe!!!
- I received a positive note on my resume and opportunities from career development lead at Lockheed.
- I applied online for a job as a Division Trainer for Rexel.
- I MAY GET A JOB WITH BLANK, VOID, NOTHINGNESS AND ASSOCIATES, INCORPORATED!!! There was a Human Resource Manager job online with no company listed. It was in Orlando, so I applied to it, but what does it say when the company doesn’t want to post their own name!?!?! Does Enron have a local office that’s still open?
- David Norton provided me a couple jobs to apply for out on the coast with Harris. Hopefully, he will get a HUGE bonus for helping connect his company with a fine, upstanding, quality employee (me!) I applied.
- I also applied for the Director of Training & Development job at Starwood here in Orlando. I figure they can pay me bonuses in Blue Zoo restaurant gift certificates (Blue Zoo is a famous place in one of their hotels, and I love seafood!)

Update May 2

I need to keep track of what I am doing:

Yesterday:

- April and I worked for about an hour over the internet updating the resume – adding a bit of clarity. Here is the new file (good for seven days) Thanks, April! Where do I send the cookies?http://www.yousendit.com/download/WUJacHBCZEs3bUEwTVE9PQ My new slogan is "SPAM the globe!!!"

- I had a long phone conversation with Kim up in Framingham, Mass; she’s handing my resume to some friends over sushi. Thanks, Kim! I suppose you want cookies, too?

- I got some feedback that Lockheed may need help past June 28th; I was asked to look into signing up with the contractor firm Avionics. This is not the optimal situation, but it might be a good bridge between my current position and the new one (I’ll just have to do a little artwork on the resume to show continuous employment).

- I applied online for four jobs: a Manager of Workforce Diversity in Orlando (Hudson), Manager of Training & Development in King of Prussia, PA (UHS), Manager of Organizational Effectiveness in St. Joseph, MO (Boehringer Ingelheim), and Manager of Leadership Development in Pittsburg (Alcoa – the farm supply people! I remember them as the people who supported Murrow during his questioning of McCarthy on 1950s television.)

- This is where my friends realize I am applying for jobs outside of central Florida and start to convince me I don’t really have to move. (Hi, David and Cathy!)

- I passed my information on to Systems Engineering at Lockheed.

- I got a nice note of encouragement from the CFO of De La Porte, the company I work for. (Check out their web site –
www.delaporte.com – the Portal magazine is a good read. I should probably submit an article – I have a lot of research on The Art of Followership.)

Before Yesterday:

- I had a very open, honest talk with the manager of leadership development here. I had found out earlier that the job position I was vying for at Lockheed was going to be used as a rotational opportunity for high-potential HR. This basically put me out of the running for the job. Things like this happen in corporate America; it’s not personal. I’ve had strong indication that they would love to keep me if they could.

- I also talked with the director of training; he iterated the same information. He was also very complimentary of me and my work and said he’d help me how he could.

I sent information to the protocol, career development, COE, and international business areas at Lockheed. I also sent my resume to a contact at the Ocala plant. I have over 13 years of experience with Lockheed, so I want to use those relationships to the best of my ability.

- I got excellent notes of encouragement and support from the President of my company and the head of HR. I know they’ll do what they can.

- I applied for a lot of other jobs.

SPAM the globe!!!

Trying Something New

Short version:

I am going to use my SLEWS of friends, associates and acquaintances to help me find a new job. I am looking in every avenue I can find. Now, there was a time when just using the Internet was not effective (and to an extent, it probably still isn't), but given that 1 out of every 10 newly married couples meets online, I think the possibilities are opening up.

I am going to post here my contacts, resumes, experiences, searches, etc. I am going to remain positive and professional (David!), because the primary goal is to find a new job.

Here's the situation:

I do employee and organizational development - teaching, consulting, developing, coaching, curricula creation, program auditing, and administration - I do it all basically.

My contract with my major client is ending as of June 28th. I have worked with Lockheed Martin in some capacity or other for 13 1/2 years (over 6 as a Consultant Liaison) But they have gone through some significant changes, and in order to meet corporate requirements, have to let me go. So, I will be jobless, basically. Although my consulting firm (De La Porte & Associates @ www.delaporte.com) is working their assets off to keep me and keep me busy, I am still heading up the search. I feel I have a LOT of contacts at Lockheed who will also help me any way they can, but I am still taking primary responsibility, because it is MY job search, so....

I’ll posted the short version of the details later. Nothing negative, so don't come back looking for drama. ;-) Sometimes, corporate business just works out this way.

Here’s the thing I would like to try. I want to use ALL the people I know to help me in whatever little way they can to get a new job. So, if you think you can help – or you know someone who knows someone who is related to someone’s uncle twice removed – and you want, post your contact here and I will send you my email.

Actually, I would like to stay in central Florida (Orlando area). But if I have to move – and if there is a GREAT employee development/organizational development job out there – I’ll take it. I don’t require exorbitant amounts of cash/bonus/perks, but I am certainly not making minimum wage, so…

If you need to know my requirements or references, just leave me a message.

Here is my resume on yousendit till Monday the 7th of May:
